I first met Richard as a young man and member of mission team in 1998 coming from Durban. Richard and his family connected with us and made me feel at home at SouthRand Salvation Army church. It was the meals, swimming and fellowship at his home. Richard was always interested in getting to know people and their stories, he would ask you probing questions and so willing to share of himself, often revealing some embarrassing stories of himself. He was hilariously funny, loved to tell a good story. He introduced me to golf, when he started a men's fellowship golf Saturday mornings. He would remain my golf buddy long after the men's group stopped. He was someone I cried with and laughed with. I think what I cherished was the way he believed in young people and challenged them to be their best. He always said to me he would tell people he knew me before I was famous, my only regret is that I took too long. I definitely was not ready to say goodbye, I was still hoping for another opportunity to be part of one of the many Baxter holidays, we always joked the "Baxter were always on holiday somewhere!". Thank you for loving so easily and widely. You are missed. My Big Brother, Friend and Golf Buddy.
